Welcome to the website for the Dorset Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers.

Who are we?

We are a group of people enthusiatic about textiles and are particularly interested in weaving, spinning and dyeing (although other textile techniques are often used). Weaving and spinning are skills which use the basic ingredients of fibres and yarns to actually construct a fabric, handspun yarns either being woven or knitted into fabric.

Our group is open to all, young and old, beginners and experts alike. Sharing our knowledge with others is an important part of our group and both informal and formal teaching takes place at our monthly meetings and at workshops. We usually meet on the last Saturday in the month at the Youth Association Hall in Lubbecke Way, Dorchester. For more information please visit the meetings page.

We aim to achieve high standards of craftsmanship in our work and also to increase the public's awareness of our crafts.  We can be found demonstrating at various agricultural shows during the year and also at the Dorset Arts and Crafts Association's Annual Exhibition at Bovington. This year we are also holding our own exhibition in October, more information is on our Exhibition page.

A newsletter is also produced for members with reports, reviews and notices which keeps all members in touch with Guild activities. To read our latest newsletter visit our newsletter page.

Dorset Guild was founded on 6th October 1947 and later became a founder member of the Association of Guilds of Weaving, Spinning & Dyeing.
