Dorset Guild of Weavers, Spinners & DyersMeetings |
![]()
We usually meet on the last Saturday in the month at the Dorset Youth Association Hall in Lubbecke Way, Dorchester. Click here for map (opens in new window). The hall is open from 10.30am and during the morning members often either spin, prepare fibres for spinning or bring a portable textile project to work on. This may include knitting, tapestry weaving, braid making, twisting fringes on scarves, or threading ends in etc. The Guild's extensive library is available for members to browse through and borrow books or DVDs for which a nominal charge is made. Also available are newsletters from other Guilds and the Guild noticeboard gives details of courses and exhibitions etc. The sales table is available for members to buy and sell various items such as yarns, fibres, equipment, books and fabrics. Members usually bring a packed lunch or go into Dorchester town centre. The afternoon session starts around 1.30pm during which there is usually a visiting speaker, demonstrator or a practical skills session. At certain meetings there are also competitions open to members. Our 'Show and Tell' table provides members with the opportunity to bring in pieces of their work (both the successful and not so successful!) and to share information on techniques used and their experiences with various fleeces, yarns and fibres. Full details of this year's programme can be found on our programme page. Visitors are always welcome at all our meetings. There are also some small groups of Guild and non-Guild members who meet informally during the month to spin or weave, further details are on the groups page. |
